Unblock blocked numbers son!

February
17

Sigh, my days of prank calling co-workers with angry ethnic accents might be numbered.

There’s a new service out called TrapCall that will unmask blocked numbers on your phone. The way it works is when you get an incoming call from a blocked number, you can route the call to TrapCall’s servers that decrypt the digital signature assigned to every blocked number.

I think I just got a nerd erection.

Within seconds, you’ll know exactly who is calling you, and the person making the call to you will have no idea.

I signed up for the free version and it worked like a charm. Some of the paid versions (10-25 bucks a month) are even more gangster. You can get TrapCall to transcribe your voicemails (handy if you’re in a meeting and want to read a message someone left for you) and even record your incoming calls!

Deactivate…

February
16

After using Facebook for four years, I’ve decided to deactivate my account for a second time. As much as I love keeping in touch with friends from childhood and college, I can’t take anymore of the constant status updates, random friend requests and intrusions on real life. Honestly, I only use it to keep up with birthdays and to wish my friends well on their special day.

I mean, do I really need to know that you are getting your oil changed before you walk your dog? Or that you are popping champagne at Club “I’m Important.” Trust me, I believe you when you say life is good. No need to “confirm” the details. Sometimes it’s just refreshing to receive a phone call or personal email from a friend sharing info about their day, instead of finding out the details through their photo album posted online.

A recent story on The Huffington Post, “Help! I’m Addicted to Facebook,” lists some sure signs that you may have lost control. Tara Stiles says you may be addicted to Facebook, if:

1. Facebook is your home page.

2. You update your status more than twice a day.

3. You have over 500 “friends” half of whom you’ve never actually met.

4. As soon as you step away from your computer you’re on FB on your phone.

5. You are a FB stalker. You qualify as a FB stalker if you

a) click on someone’s profile more than once a day even if they haven’t messaged or tagged you in a photo.

b) have dragged and dropped more than 3 FB photos (not from your own profile)

c) actually go to a place mentioned on someone’s page in hopes of seeing them in real life…creepy!

6. You change your profile picture more than a 12-year-old girl.

7. You have checked your FB page while reading this article.

8. You clean up your “wall” so it looks like you spend less time on FB.

9. You are a member of more than 10 groups and respond to every event invitation “attending” even if you have no intention of going.

10. You change your relationship status just to mess with people

I challenge all to a FB hiatus, just once, to see the difference. And if all fails, your page will remain exactly the same when you return.

Review: Street Fighter 4

February
15

I dare you to play this game without peeing your pants in excitement.

I just got my hands on Street Fighter 4 this past weekend, and holy crap it rocks my world. The game totally has the old school game play of the original games in the series but they beefed up with incredibly gorgeous graphics.

Here’s the review of it that IGN posted:

If you like fighting games, definitely go out and buy this.

Man, we got some losers on Google

February
12

Hooray, it’s not just me.

Google now has this tool called Insight, where you start typing in something under search and it brings up the most popular searches based on those words.

But my little brother pointed out something awesome, try it for yourself. I took a screen grab of me typing in the phrase “why do I have” and you get this:

I can’t make this up people.

Couple arrested for eating iguana on Facebook

February
10

Iguanas, the other white meat.

A couple posted an album of their recent vacation to the Bahamas on Facebook, including a picture of them feasting on a rare iguana.

According to police, the pics showed them “catching an iguana, parts of an iguana on a grill, two men eating the iguana pieces, and a man and a woman cleaning what appears to be undersized conch.”

Authorities in the Bahamas somehow found out about the pics and arrested them for violating the Fisheries Regulations and the Wild Animal Protection Act.

Now that these guys got busted, perhaps I should take down this pic on my Facebook, of me trying to eat my ridiculously adorable nephew:

Come on, tell me that you don’t want to pour ketchup on him and eat him.

Is money straining your relationship? Join the club, or start one

February

A recent New York Times article profiled a group of 20-something women forced to adjust their carefree lifestyles due to the economic turndown. The informal gathering of Dating a Banker Anonymous is a support group founded last November to help women married or dating financiers who have been laid off, or are extremely stressed out from their work environment!

I’m a firm believer in leaning on my friends when I’m in need, but complaining about not being able to take a luxury vacation or having to cancel my credit cards for shopping, as the article states, is a bit much. I’ll take a step back, as to not knock anybody else’s situation; I guess this is what they are accustomed to. I DO applaud these women for taking a positive step to fellowship with others who feel their pain. Plus getting all dolled up and to meet for Comsos at least once a week doesn’t hurt either.

Now if I could just find a support group for recent grads with school loans, a car note and long to travel the world, I’d be pretty content too.

Universities feeling the economic crunch

February
9

As the government continues in stagnant woe, I have to ask: Who really needs assistance?

While automobile companies and banks—and let’s not forget companies using private jets and giving million dollar bonuses—continue to reap help from the government, higher institutes of education are feeling the burden too.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta have both cut 100 staff positions this month. Clark Atlanta has even cut all physical education classes! Isn’t PE fundamental?! With talks of a stimulus bill to aid schools across the country, its seems that education may soon be pushed to the forefront as a priority. The article says nine out of 10 students at Clark Atlanta need financial aid to attend the private school. I can’t help but think that the economy has forced some 20-somethings to leave the school of their dreams to transfer to state-funded schools.

If you are a 20-something who has reconsidered higher education, transfered to a cheaper school or even decided to start at your local community college for the time being, please contact 25 Sense.

Buy 1 Blackberry Get 1 Free

February
5

One of the blessings about being brown is we have an extra chromosome in our bodies that enable us to find awesome deals.

It’s a proven fact.

If you’re thinking about switching over to Verizon or renewing your contract there, now’s the time to do it. Starting Friday, the company is offering a Buy One Get One Free sale on all its Blackberries until the end of March.

Not a bad idea if you want to land yourself a Blackberry Storm, probably the closest thing to matching the iPhone.

Me, I’m on Sprint because I make poor decisions in life. But I’m looking forward to Sprint’s mid-March release of the Palm Pre, a phone that gets me excited in certain areas I choose not to mention.

G.I. Joe movie, please don’t suck

February
2

I’ve been a nervous wreck all day.

Yesterday, as I was watching the Super Bowl on my beloved 120-inch HD projector screen, I watched the trailer for the G.I. Joe movie coming out this summer.

G.I. Joe was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid. What on Earth is all this high-tech slow motion Matrix crap that they’re trying to infuse into the movie?

Cleavage, Marlon Wayans as Ripcord and knocking down the Eiffel Tower with moss? Seriously Hollywood, that’s all you got?

(It should be noted, that I am a strong fan of one of those items).

To be fair, I was a HUGE skeptic of the Transformers movie, which remade another baller cartoon from my childhood. And that movie was a whirling dervish of awesomeness. So I guess I’ll have to wait until summertime. Until then, I remain skeptical.
