Why we’re not tying the knot

November
11

When my mom was my age, she was already a blissful wife, the last girlĀ  — the dreaded spinster at age 24 — in her circle of friends to get hitched.

Fast forward to 2008 when the median age for a first marriage is 26 for women and 28 for men, the oldest it’s ever been, according to yesterday’s USA Today.

Young adults, women especially, are delaying “I do” to rack up degrees and earn that corner office. Others are spooked by marriage for fear of divorcing like their parents — or being forced to do the Chicken Dance at their wedding receptions.

While there’s no ideal age, researchers and experts say people who wait until their late 20s or early 30s to get married have a greater chance of staying together.

Chicken dance at weddings, totally a white people thing. I love you guys to death, but you need to find some new wedding moves.
