Video review: Rock Band 2

The 25 Sense gang and our friends at MetroMix made fools out of ourselves testing out Rock Band 2 yesterday on the Xbox 360. Definitely a game worth buying. Check out my detailed impressions after the jump.

Download:

This game smoothens out just about all the tiny flaws with the first Rock Band game. There is now a “no fail mode” so you don’t have to worry about your sucky friends messing up the song for the rest of the band.

Even cooler, you can import just about all your songs from the first game (for a $4.99 fee, definitely worth it) so you don’t have to swap discs. Add both discs together, and you have a song lineup of almost 200 songs right off the bat.881-1vgame1125standaloneprod_affiliate2.jpg

The tutorial mode has been improved too, with an extensive drum trainer mode that will get you hammering away on those bad boys in no time.

Most importantly, you have a great selection of song titles with artists ranging from Bon Jovi (“Livin’ on a Prayer”) to Journey (“Anyway You Want It”) to one of my favorite 80s bands, Duran Duran (“Hungry Like the Wolf”)

I definitely recommend getting this game, but if you already have the instruments from the first Rock Band game, I wouldn’t upgrade to the Rock Band 2 instruments. There are only teeny tiny improvements with them, such as the drums aren’t so loud when you hit them.

Wait until the instruments from Guitar Hero: World Tour come out on Oct. 26 because it will feature a touch sensitive guitar and a pressure sensitive drum set that’s also wireless. I’m drooling already.

I give Rock Band 2 a solid 9/10.

With the economy doing like shit right now and layoffs even at your own paper, I think us twenty somethings have more on our mind then video games, and if you don’t you seriously need to reconsider this blog and perhaps put some topics of relative use about our times now.
