Lessons learned may have faded. Cost of them never will.

Morsel of knowledge for the day: credit card debt may be easier to get out of than student loan debt, according to a recent New York Times article.

Students loans can be described as the Gremlin of some 20-something lives. Like those 1980s monsters, student loans must be handled delicately if you don’t want them to turn into a grotesque creature.

img_0443.JPGOne student from the story watched her $23,000 student debt swell to $63,000 when she failed to pay. Her loan company ultimately garnished some of her wages, and the ordeal contributed to the demise of her relationship with her boyfriend.

The story focuses on a 38-year-old Alan Collinge, who has spearheaded an effort to change bankruptcy law and prevent lenders from terrorizing the lives of former students who can’t pay. He owes a whopping $100,000.

I’ve heard student lending dubbed “The Wild West” of the loan industry, but it’s hard to feel bad for Collinge. He apparently hasn’t had a steady job in a few years, according to the article, but has dinero for salsa and tango lessons and no dough for his debts.

What about the rest of us who skip vacations and skimp on extra-curriculars so we can act responsibly and meet our monthly payments?

Even Jesus loves Guitar Hero

August

And the latest person to jump on the Guitar Hero bandwagon is… God.

Digital Praise, a Christian video game company, announced it will be releasing “Guitar Praise,” a game similar to Guitar Hero that will allow players to play their favorite Christian rock songs with guitar shaped controllers.

Now you can strum the night away with smash Christian rock hits by Hawk Nelson, Seventh Day Slumber and Nate Sallie!

As a Muslim, I feel jilted. I should create the game “Ramadan Hero,” where I can boogie to tunes like “Ahmed the Red Humped Camel” and “All I want for Ramadan is my two front teeth, and not to be randomly searched at the airport.”

Guitar Praise will be available for PCs and Macs on Sept. 25.

They said it!

Last night I went to a networking event at The Brazen Fox, where there were plenty of well-dressed hunks.

Some fledgling professionals were excited to offer their insights on a hodge podge of stuff.

“The next four years will define the new generation, the individuals coming back from fighting in Iraq, the college graduates, the kids of baby boomers and baby boomers themselves, who are looking to retire. I think 2008 is an interesting time. We have to make a decision that may not impact just the next four years, but will impact our lives.”

— Bill Merz, 29, of Bronxville, on the state of national politics right now.

How to deal with difficult people

August
27

Whether it is in our personal lives or professional lives, we are all going to run into negative people who may try and put us down. As 20 somethings, one thing that we all must be armed with is a shield of confidence and self-assurance. In her article, “How To Deal With People Who Put you Down,” Catherine Pratt gives some tips how to deal.

Realize that negative people who put others down are hurt themselves. Their tirades against you reveal just how unhappy and frustrated they are with life. Realize that the comments made toward you have to do more with the person, not you, so do not take it personally.

Cher as Catwoman in next Batman flick?

August
27

I can’t even type this post without shuddering.

62-year-old Cher, most famous for making my ears bleed with that “Believe” song in the late 90s, is reportedly in talks to play Catwoman in the next Batman flick.tjndc5-5b3u945t45j1e01816m5_original.jpg

Supposedly, Cher is Christian Bale’s first choice to play Catwoman. This is a slap in the face to a previous story I had written on the Suburbarazzi blog (cross promotion, what whaaaaaat).

Why is this so atrocious you ask? See that Cher pic I posted, imagine some tight leather wrapped around that cryogenic cadaver. I don’t recall Catwoman ever being a geriatric old lady on botox steroids that sings like a pregnant hyena.

Sure they’re grrrreat….

But come on, Tony! Reading the back of a Frosted Flakes box will put even the early bird back to bed! It’s the most boring cereal

dsc09388.jpgbox out there today — and it’s supposed to be for kids for crying out loud?!

You see, the back of the Frosted Flakes box is centered around the compelling question: “What are GDAs?” It turns out GDAs are “guideline daily amounts,” which are “benchmark values to help guide you towards the daily amounts suggested for a balanced diet” and blah, blah, blah, blah!

Tony, take a cue from your pal across the aisle — the one and only undisputed champ of breakfast cereals, Lucky. That little leprechaun knows the deal!

img_1127.jpg

The back of the Lucky Charms box had me scratching my head the other day trying to figure out a sequence of events relating to Lucky stealing a bowl of cereal from some kids in the woods and then making a mad dash off to enjoy his feast. Honestly, I’m not kidding when I say it was tough to figure out! (Well, at least until I realized putting the events in the right order spelled out a word… And no, cheater! I’m not gonna tell you what word!)

Anyways, I guess all I’m saying is that I appreciate a bit of a brain buster in the morning along with my sugary goodness. Is that too much to ask?

So what other cereal boxes do you find entertaining?

August
26

I think I peed my pants a little out of excitement when I read the song list for Rockband 2. Fleetwood Mac, Duran Duran AND Bon Jovi? Who’s been reading my diary!?!?!1_61_rock_band_grab.jpg

Guitar Hero World Tour comes out Oct. 26, and its going to feature tracks by Ozzy Osbourne and Michael Jackson. I’m going to have to brush up on my moonwalking and animal head eating before the game comes out.

20-something-women are not little girls

August
26

This past week I got into a little argument with an acquaintance of mine. My acquaintance is a 43-year-old woman who I saw as a mentor. Sometimes we sit down and talk about life and she always says the same thing when I give an opinion. “Danielle you are so naive” or “Oh please you are a 25-year-old GIRL” or her favorite “I am much older and wiser, so you don’t know what you are talking about.”

May I see your ID, please?

August
25

ABSOLUTELY!

I’m 26 years old — going to turn 27 in January, gasp! — and I must say I hope and pray every time I step up to a bar that I will be asked for identification.

I used to get carded every time I went out. Now, sadly, it’s more of a rare occurrence…

Gotta love the bartender at Porterhouse who studied my driver’s license in great detail the other night before finally pouring me a pint of Captain Lawrence. Cheers to that!

Actors paid to wait in line for iPhone

August
25

Apparently Apple is in hotwater after confessing it will pay a bunch of actors to wait in line for the new iPhone when it launches in Poland this week.tjndc5-5fi556t0e3818wclzby7_original.jpg

If Polish people got paid, you can’t help but wonder if Apple did the same thing here in the U.S.

For some reason, whenever I think of Poland, I picture a bunch of people sitting around an igloo eating giant sausages. I can’t tell if that’s racist, or incredibly stupid.
